Ankidroid is available on Google Play.

Transcrobes includes an Anki 2.1 and later-compatible server, enabling you to synchronise your collection with Ankidroid. The deck named Transcrobes in your collection is the word list used by the system as a representation of your knowledge of the language you are learning.

Important information:

If you currently use the built-in sync’ing functionality of Ankidroid to synchronise your existing collections with Ankiweb and you want to continue doing this, you will only be able use Transcrobes on Ankidroid by creating a new Android user profile and using that for Transcrobes. There is a feature request on Ankidroid to allow multiple collections/accounts but it has not yet been implemented.

Configuring Ankidroid

By default, Ankidroid points to Ankiweb servers for synchronising your collections. In order to sync with the Transcrobes Ankrobes server, you need to change the default sync server. To do this go to Settings -> Advanced -> Custom Sync Server

Check the Use custom sync server checkbox and tap on the Sync url link. Enter the full URL for the sync server that your admin has provided you with. Repeat that for the Media sync url.

Initial sync

If you are starting out with an existing word list/deck, then you should set that up first on Anki Desktop. If you don’t have a deck then you can simply sync.

You MUST chose the Download Remote option when prompted whether to upload or download after initial setup - Transcrobes currently requires a very specific format. Your account has been initialised with that format but Ankidroid doesn’t know about it yet, so you need to download from the server. We plan to make the format much more flexible over time but currently you can’t change the deck format or the system will not work as expected.

After downloading you can start using Ankidroid for learning immediately. You can add words directly into Ankidroid but the notrobes browser extension has some advanced search features, access to several dictionaries and one-click addition in an optimised format, so for getting new words in, it is highly recommended to use that.
